Between fear and hope, love and pain, fragility and strength — this programme explores the emotional contrasts at the heart of the early Baroque.Through the music of composers such as Barbara Strozzi and Antonia Bembo, L’Aura Pizzicata gives voice to vulnerability, desire and creative strength. Shaped within the social constraints of their time, their music speaks with a remarkable immediacy that continues to resonate today.
Music becomes a space where opposing emotions meet.

L’Aura Pizzicata turns in this programme to the music and voices of nuns in the Italian early Baroque. Works by Chiara Margarita Cozzolani, Isabella Leonarda and Claudia Sessa meet literary accounts of the composers and texts by the Mexican poet and nun Juana Inés de la Cruz.Between sacred intimacy, longing and pain, a musical dialogue unfolds around the many facets of Mary and the power of women’s artistic expression.
